In the UE Superman still feels like the main character I agree with you there, but that's the wrong focus, in my opinion. The movie is supposed to be about Batman and Superman's growing antagonism. In the extended edition, it feels that, while Batman is obsessed with Superman, Superman's feelings towards Batman are just a side story for him.
